Rights Milestones
There is no question that there are generational differences in the experiences of GSD people, and their experiences with gender-based violence. Here is a timeline of legislative and other milestones that impacted the lives of GSD communities across generations.
Over the last several decades, there have been steady gains in rights for GSD people in Canada which will impact the experiences of community, education, employment, faith, family life, healthcare, and relationships. That said, in the past few years, there have been significant threats to the rights and lives of trans people, especially trans women of colour.
These variations across generations and, of course, gender and sexuality, result in very different lived experiences and resources required to assist people in healing.
