After two years of pandemic-inspired virtual walks, Gillian’s Place is excited to announce the return of Walk a Mile in HER Shoes to the Pen Centre. Are you man enough? Prove it on Saturday October 15th and join the men's march to end violence against women.
Walk a Mile in HER Shoes is a symbolic march that gives men and male-identifying allies the opportunity to take a stand against violence against women. We are abundantly grateful to our corporate sponsors, walkers, ambassadors, and donors, who over the past 16 years have helped raise over $1,290,000 for Gillian’s Place. Beyond raising vital funds for Gillian’s Place, the men’s march has helped spread awareness about violence against women in Niagara, and beyond.
Since the last men’s march at the Pen Centre, Gillian’s Place has responded to a 91% increase across all areas of programming. This drastic increase in need for protection and support signals a dangerous and threatening increase in violence and abuse against women, children, Two-Spirit, genderqueer, trans, and non-binary folks.
More than ever before, Gillian’s Place needs Niagara’s male and male-identifying allies to rally and march to end violence against women this October. By walking and/or donating, you are raising awareness and ensuring that practical and compassionate services are there when protection and support is needed most.

Women are often doing the work for men in terms of taking a stand for violence against women. Men and male-identifying allies have more power relative to women in society, which places them in great place to advance gender initiatives.
Walk a Mile in HER Shoes directly benefits men and male-identifying allies by:
- Changing ridged gender perceptions
- Broadening gender expectations and norms
- Advances self-care for men
- Transforming unhealthy masculinities
- Promoting male allyship
- Promoting healthy relationships
Walk a Mile in HER Shoes is an opportunity for men and male-identifying allies to put in the work to end violence against women.

Sadly, the need for Walk a Mile to raise funds and awareness is needed now, more than ever before. We have witnessed a staggering increase in need for support for those surviving abuse, and their loved ones. Help us, help survivors of violence and abuse in Niagara, and beyond.
Since the last Men's March at the Pen Centre...
- 379 survivors have lived in our shelter
- 8,304 crisis calls and texts have been answered, and
- 1,709 clients have received help from our full-time family law lawyer
This drastic increase in need for protection and support signals a dangerous and threatening increase in violence and abuse toward women, girls, Two-Spirit, genderqueer, trans, and non-binary people. Are you #ManEnough? Prove it.
